Ldk Solar (ldk) – When Bad News is Good

♥ May 10th, 2009 , Tags : , , , No Comment

Zachary Scheidt asked:

A funny thing happened with LDK Solar (LDK) on Tuesday.  The stock gapped lower on the open after the company pre-announced figures for the fourth quarter.  The release was not pretty and investors were not pleased.

Basically, the company said that revenue would come in at $425-435 million compared to previous guidance at $555 to 565 million.  Solar shipments look to have been 245-255 MegaWatts compared to previous guidance of 260-270 MW, and gross margins will only be roughly 10-13% (previous guidance was 18-20%).

The fourth quarter data was disconcerting, but what likely spooked investors was a delay in polysilicon production.   One of the most important initiatives over the next few quarters is the internal production of poly.  This will keep the company from having to rely on suppliers for poly which can be difficult to produce, and expensive to purchase.  While the company is actively producing a small amount of poly, it stated that there was a delay in ramping this production to a higher level…  Bad news!

Back to the funny thing… It seems that by the end of the day, LDK was actually trading higher!  Investors were able to shrug off the bad news because the stock was already trading at such low levels.  Shareholders have been largely negative on solar names over the past few months, but once the bad news actually hits the public, it may be that the next surprising data will actually be positive!

Looking to 2009, the company is giving lighter revenue guidance of $2.3 to $2.5 billion.  Despite being lower than previous expectations, the figures are roughly 45% above 2008 levels.  Furthermore, the company is expecting gross margins of 22 to 27%.  The margins are at least partially due to expectations of polysilicon production of 3,000 to 5,000 megatons.  I should note that the poly delay was on the company’s 1,000 MT plant.  It seems that the larger 15,000 MT plant (under construction) is still on schedule and should begin poly production in the second quarter.  It is actually better for the company to gain the experience and make mistakes on the 1,000 MT plant so when the larger one is ready to ramp production, the company will have a better process in place.

Subscribers to the ZachStocks Growth Model have already made 9.5% in the name and we are looking for further gains.  While Oppenheimer lowered EPS estimates to 2.90 for 2009, the stock still trades at roughly 5 times forward earnings.  That’s likely a great deal for such a strong competitor.  LDK is sitting on $380 million in cash and has access to $850 million in additional credit lines.  So I expect them to be financially stable and have adequate resources to continue to build their business.  As the company shows progress in their poly production, and the market begins to realize potential in alternative energy, LDK should prove to be an opportunistic investment.

You have really made me angry tonight. It is my opinion that your “opinions” of Senator Clinton’s Bosnia trip, have gotten old and I am sure many viewers agree with me. Do you realize how very “silly” your “news” stories are becoming on this one “news” item. You are all just nothing but “gossip” reporters.

Have none of you ever exaggerated a story in order to prove a point? Frankly, I believe you do it every night. What is the point of this “news” story about Clinton and Bosnia? She is not basing her whole foreign policy experience on that one trip; she is just telling a story. She has probably told it a thousand times over the years and the times I have seen her tell it; it is quite a funny story. Have you never told a funny story and as the years go by, you add to the story to better make your point? Sure you have, I watch you do it every night.

Chris Matthews: Lighten up Chris! Why don’t you “report” the positive side of Clinton’s trip? For example, just the fact that she was in Bosnia is an interesting “news” item. Did Clinton perhaps carry any “message” from our President to the President of Bosnia or the negotiators? Why don’t you “report” on her meeting the soldiers in Bosnia and how much she cares about our soldiers? And the refugees, talk about them; did she meet them and speak with any of them?

Keith Olbermann: Why don’t you “report” where the video came from? Who taped the video? Who edited the video? It was edited; my old eyes with my bifocals can even see that. Was the video taken on the tarmac or in front of the base? Who verified that? Who is your facts checker?

Mr. O’Reilly: What did the pilot tell Clinton about snipers in the hills? What were the pilot’s instructions to Clinton and the people with her? Has anyone “interviewed” the pilot to ask him “exactly” what he told his passengers? What was the pilot’s name?

Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes: Why don’t you “gossip” about whether Clinton had a bullet proof vest under the long coat she was wearing? How many Secret Service agents were surrounding her and her daughter? Why don’t you “speculate” whether she was scared of any danger or concerned for her daughter’s safety?

All of you; stop “talking” or “reporting” or giving your “opinions” on a story about something that your viewers are tired of! Don’t be so extremely negative all the time. Now, I do realize that the 24/7 news cycles have changed the way that the news is “reported” and perhaps you often need to “speculate” and “gossip” to make your interview shows more interesting; but you are “beating a dead horse” on this story. (And no, I am not saying that people are tired of Hillary nor am I comparing her to a dead horse!)

Do something useful, like “vet” Obama so our country doesn’t elect another arrogant, inexperienced President. All of you are acting like “love sick” teenagers when it comes to Senator Obama.

Of course, all of this is just my “opinion” but then I don’t claim to be a news journalist either.

Using Humor/jokes & Creative/funny Videos to Sell Your Ebook!

Humor & Funny Videos can help to sell your ebook!

-leader in Viral Marketing

A study by Sharpe Partners, an interactive marketing agency, revealed that 89% of adult Internet users in America share content with others via e-mail. This is excellent news for those companies who use self-propelling word-of-mouse” e-mail techniques to sell their products.

The study generated some interesting results regarding the type of content that is most often forwarded, as well. The most popular content is humorous material.

The second most popular category is news, followed by healthcare and medical information, religious and spiritual material, games, business and personal finance information and sports/hobbies… in that order. So it is easy to see that humor is the best content for your viral e-mail campaign.

Cartoons, jokes and funny video clips are among the things that can be added to an e-mail to insure that it will go viral. People will want to pass along something that makes them laugh.

They are a lot more likely to hit the forward button and send your email to their friends and relatives if it is an “advertainment” rather than an advertisement.

Not along ago, about 35 million people got an e-mail containing a picture taken in Disneyland. It took a minute to see it but there was Donald Duck lying prone in front of the famous Cinderella Castle. The title of the picture was “Bird Flu has hit Disneyland”. It was a viral e-mail advertising Disneyland and used the edgy strategy of making light of what’s serious… and it works.

I’d guess that most people who own a computer have seen that picture… and thus the advertisement for Disneyland. The bird flu epidemic is newsworthy and has the potential to attract an enormous amount of attention to any brand that might, for whatever reason, associate itself with it.

Remember that people are much more likely to share a joke or a funny picture than anything else so you would be well advised to include humor in your e-mail campaign.

Funny Video Clips

♥ May 7th, 2009 , Tags : , , , No Comment

Ahmed Tariq Taimoor asked:

The widespread popularity of video clips, with the aid of new distribution channels, has evolved into clip culture. It is compared to “lean-back” experience of seeing traditional movies, refers to an internet activity of sharing and viewing a short video, mostly less than 15 minutes. The culture began as early as the development of broadband network, but it sees the boom since 2005 when websites for uploading clips are emerging on the market, including Shockinghumor, YouTube, Google Video, MSN Video and Yahoo! Video.

These video clips often show moments of significance, humour, oddity, or prodigy performance. Sources for video clips include news, movies, music video and amateur video shot. In addition to the clip recorded by high-quality camcorders, it is becoming common to produce clips with digital camera, webcam, and mobile phone.

Among others, I have come accross a very nice website which offers searching YouTube, Metacafe, DailyMotion and Revver at the same time. You can enter the keyword in the tab and there you go. The site has pre-configured tabs for Music, Movie, Cine, Videogames, Sports, Cars, and Entertainment. ClipKnock.com

I would strongly recommend this site for video clips enthusiasts. (Rating *****)

The Anatomy of Humor : the Makings of Funny Videos

♥ May 5th, 2009 , Tags : , , , No Comment

Robert asked:

Because sending and posting videos online have becoming easier and more convenient than ever, many Internet users are currently using this technology to spread entertaining and hilarious materials through blogs, e-mails, and forums. Among these materials are those funny videos that you see everyone online—from personal websites to forums, from Youtube to sites dedicated to funny videos. These funny video clips become so popular that they are widely spread all over the cyberspace. If you spend even just a few minutes online, you are probably familiar with these videos. And once these videos become so popular, it gains popular even beyond the Internet. These funny video clips are usually called viral video, named after the viruses with their ability to replicate. But why and how did these funny videos become an integral part of the Internet? And what are the different types of funny video clips?

Technology

Without a doubt, funny video clips became viral because of the technology available to the people today. Regardless of the nature of the videos, anyone can easily post them online. For instance, thanks to recording devices, television viewers can easily save clips from shows that they find funny. A good example is the “D-ck in a Box” video of a sketch from Saturday Night Live. Although the clip itself was temporarily available in the official website of NBC, individual television viewers already preserved the video to prosperity by posting it on Youtube. And since Youtube has features that allow members to post videos on their social networking pages and blogs, people have consciously and unconsciously spread the video, catapulting it to viral video status.

Variations

Of course, funny videos or viral videos are not just limited to hilarious television clips from comedy shows. Sometimes, the humor is unintentional—making it more amusing. These would include foreign game shows from other countries, with their bizarre game play and even more bizarre results. An example of this is the Human Tetris game videos from a game show in Japan. Other funny video clips came from homemade short clips, with the definition of “hilarious” mostly subjective. A popular example of this is the video blog of Chris Crocker. This video—with Crocker defending Britney Spears’ Video Music Awards performance—became one of the most watched videos on Youtube. Although not essentially funny, the context and the actual content made it entertaining and, to most of the viewers, hilarious.

Impact

The impact of these funny video clips online is overwhelming. Internet has been relegated as an alternative media—but its content has become so popular that it has influenced the content of mainstream media, particularly on television. For instance, Chris Crocker was an instant Internet celebrity thanks to his video, but the coverage of entertainment news outfits made him an actual Hollywood figure—at least, only for a while. The Human Tetris videos became such big Internet hits that the American noontime talk show Ellen simulated it. Without a doubt, funny videos are big not just online—they are now mainstream entertainment too.

The Impact of Funny Videos Online on Mainstream Media

♥ May 4th, 2009 , Tags : , , , No Comment

Robert asked:

Funny videos are perhaps the most popular materials or content online. Thanks to website such as Youtube and advancements in video-taking technologies, anyone can now post their own personal funny video, or share to everyone an obscure video they found in the most inconspicuous places. For instance, several years ago, a funny music video of a song titled “Numa Numa” came out of nowhere, but it attracted the attention of millions (more than two million, to be precise) Internet users in just a matter of three months. Not bad for medium that many consider as merely an alternative to mainstream media such as television and print. Because of the popularity of funny videos, its impact in mainstream media has become so huge it can no longer be ignored.

Crossover

The proponents of funny videos—if it is popular enough—can crossover from the Internet to the mainstream. An example of this is the Numa Numa song. A few months after the first Numa Numa video was released online, the song itself has become not just a national phenomenon; it is also known worldwide. The song itself was even released as a single and in a number of dance albums around the world. Many aspiring celebrities used this possibility as their stepping stone to stardom—although some, especially those who were involved in funny videos, may have done it unintentionally. Nonetheless, funny videos that turn into Internet hits are usually recognized and covered by media outfits. It took a few months before the video of Philippine prisoners dancing to a number of dance tunes was reported in the country’s local news, for example, but the crossover is almost always inevitable.

Exchanging roles

But the most significant impact of funny videos online is how celebrities and important figures and personalities have used this medium. For instance, Hollywood actor Will Ferrell occasionally creates funny videos that are posted online. Why would a famous Hollywood actor create funny videos for online consumption? Simple: because even celebrities like him recognize the power of these clips posted on the Internet. For them, these videos serve as some sort of promotional tool. And since funny videos can become “viral” (viral video is a term used for videos that are widely circulated online), millions and millions of people can watch them—in short, for actors like Will Ferrell, funny videos can be a form of cheap advertisement. Hollywood stars and figures such as Judd Apatow (director and producer of blockbuster movies), Michael Cera (star of Juno), Hunter Parrish (star of the television show Weeds and lead cast of the Broadway musical Spring Awakening), and other celebrities have made their own funny videos.

A different source of entertainment

Of course, funny videos need not come from big Hollywood stars, celebrities, or big name personalities coming from different sectors—they can come from the most peculiar sources, individuals, and situations. And thanks to the Internet and a number of websites dedicated to funny videos, Internet users can easily see what the hype is all about.

Birthday & Children Jokes; Funny Baby & Toddlers Humour

Eren asked:

BIRTHDAY JOKES & CHILDREN HUMOR –HILARIOUSLY FUNNY CHILD SATIRE, BABY, TODDLERS HUMOUR

(Based on author’s site www.geocities.com/bdyjks)

It’s quite amazing how humorous a child can be, what satirical even comical situation can arise with kids, in these hilariously funny birthday and children, baby and toddler jokes…

When the little girl returned from her friend’s birthday party, her mother asked if she had thanked the hostess of the party before leaving. “No.” said the little girl, “The person before me did, and my friend’s mother said ‘Don’t mention it’ -so, I didn’t…”

“So, what are we then -boy or girl?” asked one of the baby twins, and “I know how to find out,” said the other and disappeared under the sheets, then reappeared, and declared “I am a boy, and you are a girl.” “O-oh, how clever you are!” exclaimed the girl baby, “How could you tell!?” and boy baby proudly explained, “Oh, it was easy to tell -I am wearing blue booties, and you are wearing pink ones…”

An elderly man asked a young boy if he could see him across the road. The boy crossed the road, stood on the pavement, turned to him and shouted: “Yes.. I can…”

The little girl tossed some pieces of bread to a bird at the zoo, and when the bird looked to her for more, she asked her mother what bird it was. Told that it was a stork, the little girl was so excited: “O-oh.. it must have recognised me!..”

The little boy, came in running and excitedly announced that he had sold the cat for £10,000. “O-o-h…” asked his father, “They paid by cheque?” “No..” replied the boy, ” I got two £5,000 kittens for it…”

“Did you put an ad. in the local paper, about your missing dog..?” asked a boy’s friend. “Don’t be silly..” he said, “My dog can’t read…”

The little girl, before going to bed, said her prayers: “… God, please make bad people good.” She then added: “And good people nice…”

“Yup!” boasted the young boy to her friends: “I jumped on a young girl the other day, lay her down on the ground, pulled up her skirt, tore her stockings off, grabbed hold of her panties.. and tore the elastic out for my catapult!”

“Uncle won’t be arriving today,” announced mum, after she was telephoned the news, “He’s missed the train today and will start at the same time, tomorrow”. “Oh, dear!” remarked the little girl, “He’s going to miss it again then, isn’t he, if he starts at the same time…!?”

An anecdote, about his in childhood rather plump eldest son, of teacher and thinker the late Orhan Seyfi Ari: “Other children grow vertically, mine horizontally!”

“How did you get that black eye!?” exclaimed the little boy’s mother. “You told me good boys don’t fight,” he said, “but one fought back!..”

“You ask so many questions -I can’t know the answers to all of them” exclaimed, rather tired, a parent, “Do you know what might have happened if I had asked my parents as many questions as you do!?” The child thought, then replied “You might’ve known the answers..?”

“Thank you, auntie,” said the little girl as she opened her birthday present, “I always wanted a nice pin cushion.. but not very much…”
